Congressman Tom McClintock visited Minarets recently and it wasn't a typical school visit. Students and Mr. Kelly along with many others got to meet this representative and ask questions, voice their opinions, but most importantly see this man not as an idea or lesson you learn in Government but as Mr. Kelly said, “a person.”
Don’t know what a Congressman is? A Congressman is an elected official that represents us and what we need up in DC, or as Mr. Kelly defines:
“our Federal Representative does what we want him or her to do for us in Washington, DC. The House of Representatives is elected every two years and is thus more accountable to the people than the president (4 years) and senators (6 years) because they are begin tax bills in their house.”
So the question now is, why was he here? To put it simply, our school is in the southern part of his district. He comes along the schools within his District to, from what I understand, gain feedback and information that he needs to make the District better and not just sit in a fancy room putting checkmarks on everything.
Will another member of Congress visit Minarets? Well, this isn’t the first time a representative visited our school, a week before McClintock’s arrival State Assemblyman Frank Bigelow came in for a visit. I for one am glad that our school is catching the attention of officials and hope for another visit from a representative soon, and hopefully not miss they’re arrival.
