Unless you’re new to Minarets, you’ve probably heard all about our Derby Week that leads up to our Homecoming football game and dance. Each year we have a different theme for the days of the week where the student body can dress up for and participate in games during lunchtime. In anticipation for next week, we decided to interview some members of our student body for opinions on previous Derby Week experiences at our school, as well as any other additional notes for this year.
“Comparing costumes, seeing everyone’s costumes was pretty cool. Hyping people up has been lacking. It’s like pre-Halloween but like every day” - Junior Faith Ashton
“It is great shows the spirit of the school super excited for meme day” - Sophomore Dadalus Haynes
“I like it it is super fun to see how people dress up and gives the student body something to look forward to. I dress at least a day each week. Very creative with the themes for the days” - Junior Lindsay Martin
“I like derby week it’s fun and I like seeing people dress up and participate, derby week to me is, a fun week to show that I care and participate and show that I have school spirit. Yes, I have experienced derby week and it was fun. most of the derby week is done well the only thing that could be done better is the notice, like tell us like a week before so we can plan out our outfits and the themes of each day.” - Sophomore Hailey Leathers
This year we are dishing out some new ideas for Derby Week at our school. Monday will be “Meme Day” (dress as your favorite meme at school), followed by “Tacky/Wacky” Tuesday (think odd or “thrifty” style choices), Western Wednesday, Opposite Thursday, and finally, Spirit Friday to which everyone can go all out in school spirit for our Homecoming game and dance. Be sure to also tune in during lunchtime for our fun game ideas such as Tug-A-War, Giant Battleship, and much more. Taking place October 8th through the 12th the fun is coming your way, so don’t forget to join the school for a week of excitement!
