During the Minarets Student Showcase on Tuesday, October 23rd, students from English teacher Michael Vaughan’s Junior English class presented a mock trial case to a large group of students, educators and parent spectators.
A mock trial is an act or imitation trial that simulate lower-court trials. The purpose of the mock trial is to practice and prepare for a real trial for both attorneys and students by giving the opportunity to test theories and experiment strategies.
The Mock Trial case was began at 6:00 pm in room 604 with student defense and prosecution reading through case documents and preparing a presentation for the jury. After thirty minutes, the trial began and was lead by junior Justin Coleman as judge.
The student mock trial was just one of several showcases at Minarets, with visitors enjoying student presentations, chair yoga demos, college information booths, performance band and lots of yummy food. The Minarets Showcase is an annual event held to showcase the school and student’s achievements thus far into the school year.
